Tonight (January 17) at 8pm marks the debut of my live show on Red River Radio: "The Dark End Of The Street."
The deal: a one-hour live show celebrating the best sad songs ever recorded. Each show will begin with some soul and R&B from the 1960s and 1970s, and slowly branch out into a variety of different styles - all while maintaining the melancholy aesthetic.
The show is named after a song by James Carr, who could be considered the show's patron saint. Some other artists already on the playlist include soul/R&B legends Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye and Al Green, as well as modern artists such as Cat Power, Charles Bradley, and Feist.
I spent this week preparing for and promoting the show, which included hours of going through music and creating playlists, which I absolutely love to do, and creating a new Twitter account. You can follow the show on Twitter: @DarkEndShow.
If you're interested in listening, it will be airing at www.radio.rrc.ca every Thursday at 8pm. Also, if you have any suggestions for sad songs to include on the show, or artists that have a real melancholy vibe, I would love to hear them! Just leave a comment or send me a Tweet.

I have a song for your show! "I Shall Be Released" by The Band
